MicroMPX Built In. FM Broadcasting Simplified.

Aqua Broadcast Cobalt FM transmitters have set new standards on how modern FM stations are built — by being the first FM transmitters in the world with optional native MicroMPX support.

By integrating the optional MicroMPX directly into the transmitter, Aqua Broadcast eliminates unnecessary hardware, simplifies STL architecture, and delivers a cleaner, more reliable path from studio to RF.

What Is MicroMPX?

MicroMPX sends the complete FM multiplex signal — including stereo audio, pilot tone, RDS, and subcarriers — transported as a single, efficient digital stream at bitrates as low as 320 kbit/s via an IP network. This can be done locally, over the internet, Microwave link – anywhere in the world with an IP connection!

Instead of sending vulnerable analog composite signals, MicroMPX delivers the entire FM baseband digitally, preserving timing, phase, and signal integrity from studio to transmitter.

Why MicroMPX Changes the way you use STL

Traditional FM STLs rely on multiple devices, analog composite paths, and external MPX processing — all of which add complexity, cost, and potential failure points.

With MicroMPX on Cobalt, the STL becomes:

  • Fully digital
  • Noise-immune
  • Bandwidth-efficient
  • Perfectly synchronized

All audio and data components arrive together, aligned and intact, ready for broadcast.

No Extra Boxes. No Extra Complexity.

Aqua Broadcast is the first manufacturer to embed MicroMPX handling inside an FM transmitter.

That means:

No external MicroMPX decoder

No composite STL receiver

No additional rack units or power supplies

Just a single digital MicroMPX stream delivered directly to the Cobalt transmitter.

The result?
Lower installation costs, reduced power consumption, improved reliability, and a cleaner transmitter site.

Encoder Compatibility

Cobalt transmitters work seamlessly with any compatible MicroMPX encoder, giving broadcasters complete freedom of choice.

Supported sources include:

  • StereoTool MicroMPX (software-based)
  • Hardware MicroMPX encoders from other manufacturers
  • Any compliant MicroMPX generation platform

No proprietary lock-in. No forced upgrades. Just flexibility.

MicroMPX SFN — Another World First

Cobalt transmitters don’t just support MicroMPX — they enable true FM Single Frequency Networks (SFN) using MicroMPX distribution.

By feeding the same digital MicroMPX stream to multiple Cobalt transmitters, this ensures:

  • Identical modulation across sites
  • Precise timing and phase alignment
  • Stable overlap zones and consistent RDS

This makes MicroMPX-based SFNs practical for large-area networks.

Built for the Future of FM

With native MicroMPX support, open encoder compatibility, and SFN capability, Aqua Broadcast Cobalt transmitters deliver:

  • Fewer boxes
  • Fewer cables
  • Fewer failure points
  • More flexibility
  • More reliability

This isn’t just an upgrade — it’s the new FM architecture.
